The EurAdopt 2014 Conference took place on the 23rd and 24th of April 2014 in Stockholm, Sweden.

The theme of the one and a half day Conference was: “ADOPTION FOR THE RIGHT REASONS; an option for permanency.” A total of 208 guests from 25 countries participated in the Conference, including representatives from 13  Central Authorities.

Nineteen experts in inter-country and domestic adoption presented the current situation, gave historical perspectives and addressed various challenges. Topics such as the challenge of  properly defining and applying the principle of “the best interest of the child”, the ethics in adoption practices, the need for improvement of post adoption services and the importance of permanency in the light of changing practices, were discussed in a lively and passionate manner by all participants. These are challenges for the adoptive parents, the accredited bodies, the social services and the society at large. The important role of Central Authorities in providing help, support and advice, in assuring proper monitoring of practices and activities of the accredited Bodies was also stressed.

The next conference will be held in the Netherlands at the end of May/early June 2016.
